At present, a large-scale investment project has been started to modernize the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the Trans-Siberian Railway (Transsib). As part of the Far East development state program it is planned to double the capacity of the railway network and road infrastructure, which will require huge investments in the construction of new bridges and road interchanges. The article considers the development and industrial introduction of rolled plate production process for bridge construction. Special attention is paid to advanced requirements for cold resistance, weldability of 10ХСНДА, 15ХСНДА steel grades used in the construction of bridge superstructures. A promising technology has been proposed for the creation of economically alloyed steel 12Г2СБД, the introduction of which will expand the use of steel structures in the construction of highway bridges and ramps. An innovative development to create new weather-resistant steels 14ХГНДЦ and 06ГН3МД for domestic bridge construction is described in detail, which will reduce costs and improve the efficiency of bridge superstructures in unpainted condition. Painting of bridges far away from settlements and especially in the severe climatic conditions of the Far East and the Far North regions is an organizational and cost-intensive challenge. The initial cost of an unpainted bridge is reduced by 5–8%, and further operating expenses are reduced by 30% since painting is required every 6–7 years. Methods are given for improving the mechanical properties and cold resistance of the applied steels, enhancing their weldability and increasing the resistance of steel structures to atmospheric corrosion, including aggressive environmental impact in waters of seas or near their coastline. Issues of improving the regulatory framework for rolled plates used in domestic bridge construction are considered.
